This will get you thinking.

Ok so I figure that the most of the financial frugal bloggers will have a good head for maths (although I must insist you don't have to be good with numbers to be financially successful). I got this through the email (from my mum of all people) and it got me pondering, eventually I worked it out but I challenge you all to try and work it out and let me know how long it took you.

The person who works it out the fastest will win....a great sense of satisfaction! :o/

3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30

SO EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY
$25

SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5.

ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY

BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR

HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A
TOTAL

OF $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

Good luck!

This was a tricky one riddle, but here goes:

This riddle relies on confusing the cost to the lodgers with the cost of the room. The lodgers paid $30 up front and got $3 back for a net cost to them of $27. The hotel received $25 of that $27, and the bell hop received $2. So this accounts for the entire cost to the lodgers.

As for the cost of the room, it was originally billed at $30, but $5 was refunded. Of the refunded amount, $3 went back to the lodgers and $2 went to the bell hop.

Keep the cost to the lodgers and the cost of the room separate and you'll do fine.

How was that?

That's a lot of words to say that the three guys paid, in total, $27. $2 went to the bellboy and $25 to the hotel. :)
